The work of Yubi Kirindongo can be seen from January 31st until June 1st in the museum Beelden aan Zee in The Hague. The exhibition is titled ‘Rebel in Art & Soul’. Over fifty large and small sculptures give an overview of the special work of the Curaçao native, whose artwork is made out of waste material. The artist himself will also be present at the official opening. The sculptures of Kirindongo (January 24th, 1946) have been awarded numerous times. The sculptures could be seen all around the world in local galleries and at international exhibitions such as in Biënnales of Havana, Johannesburg and Sao Paulo. In the Netherlands, Kirindongo’s recycled work of art was barely seen. Museum Beelden aan Zee presents over fifty pieces of art, which were made from the 70’s until now. This is the first major retrospective of the most important Curaçao artist. What can be seen during the exhibition, for example, are sculptures made from bumpers and other car parts, other waste materials and found objects. With all these items Kirindongo creates meaningful and socially engaged sculptures.
